Viral Warts

A viral wart is a very common growth of the skin caused by infection of human papillomavirus (HPV). They are contagious and can be passed by skin-to-skin contact, or by sharing personal items such as towels, shaving razors etc.

Types:

Common wart
Common warts look like a pimple with a rough and thick surface ranging in size from 1 mm to larger than 1 cm. They arise most often on the fingers, toes, around the nails and on the knees.

Plantar wart
Plantar warts are tender warts that have an inwardly growing and painful ‘myrmecia’ on the sole, and clusters of less painful mosaic warts.

Plane wart
Plane warts have a flat surface. The most common sites are the face, hands, and shins.

Filiform wart
Filiform warts are on a long stalk like a thread. They commonly appear on the face.

Mucosal wart
Mucosal or oral wart can affect the lips, inside the cheeks and the genitals, where they may be called squamous cell papillomas.

Treatments

Since warts are contagious, we recommend getting them treated at the earliest and have them removed.

Our dermatologist, at Orijine, offer dermato surgery (electrocautery) and cryotherapy which is very effective in the removal of warts.
