Winter is a wonderful time of the year! As welcome as the drop in temperature is, our skin tends to lose moisture and its natural oils. Flaky skin, chapped lips and cracked heels are common issues faced during the colder months. As we get caught up in the festivities, here are some skincare tips to keep your skin hydrated and glowing through the winter!
Be consistent with your skincare regime
Religiously follow every step of your skincare routine without fail. Cleanse, tone, use your serum, moisturize and most importantly use your sunscreen before stepping out. Ensure you look for ingredients that hydrate your skin and for products that are light on the skin and easily absorbed. Look for products with ceramides, hyaluronic acid and glycerine.
Use sunscreen
Yes, sunscreen isn’t just a summer essential. Basking in the winter sun sounds like a perfect idea but be warned that it can still harm your skin even if it doesn’t seem as harsh as the summer sun.
Try a facial oil
Cold-pressed oils like almond or jojoba work great when combating dry skin. Apply the oil on your face and gently massage before stepping into a shower. Few drops of facial oil after using your toner will help brighten dull skin.
Care for your lips
Your lips have the most delicate skin when compared to the rest of your body. To avoid dry, cracked and chapped lips ensure you use a lip balm. You can also try making a simple lip scrub with sugar and olive oil. Applying a little ghee also helps keep your lips supple and soft.
Avoid long showers
Exposing your skin to hot water for prolonged periods of time also dehydrates and dries your skin. Try to have a quick lukewarm shower and don’t forget to moisturize immediately.
